Ido-toge Pass is a pass on a major local road in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture.
Summary
It is the pass separating Keihoku-Kamiyuge-cho, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City and Keihoku-Ido-cho, the same ward at an altitude of 430 meters. It is located on Kyoto Prefectural Road 61 Kyoto-Keihoku Line. Since ancient times the pass has been famous and a legend is remained that a defeated soldier fleeing the enemy climbed over the pass to Hatsukawa Settlement deep in the mountain and lived there.
Features of the pass
Vehicles can run through it. The road is paved with asphalt from the foot to the peak with 1.8 lanes wide, or still with 1.5 lanes wide in the narrowest part, so standard-sized cars can pass each other easily. While the inclination isn't so sharp, the road has many blind curves. The road is not snowbound as it is on the route which isn't blocked in winter, the width sometimes become narrower by snow.
